Bell Mobility Cell tower proposal
Bell Mobility Cell tower proposal
"February 8, 2008
On Thursday January 30, 2008 an impasse motion was passed at City Council
which emphasized the City of Toronto objection of the placement of a
proposed cellular telecommunication tower at 140 Guildwood Parkway. A
notification of this has been sent to Industry Canada (attached). As the
municipality has now succeeded in obtaining an objection to the site, I have
asked our Federal representative to advocate to Industry Canada on behalf of
the Guildwood community. To date Industry Canada has advised that a timeline
for their decision is not attainable as they are waiting for Bell Mobility's
action towards the City's objection to the site.
If Bell Mobility chooses to pursue the proposed site at 140 Guildwood
Parkway they will have to file their own impasse with Industry Canada, to
which, Industry Canada will require them to supply all supporting data on
why they are still pursuing the location. With this in hand Industry Canada
will review the matter and make a decision.
If you would like to comment on this matter please let your voice be heard
by emailing Industry Canada, your Federal Representative as well as Bell
Mobility.
Sincerely,
Paul Ainslie, City Councillor

Dear Neighbours
The Guildwood Village Community Association Executive would like to take this opportunity to state clearly, where we stand on the issue of the proposed Bell Mobility cell tower to be erected on the grounds of the Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church.
Since this issue arose, the GVCA has spent a great deal of time and effort to proceed in a manner that respects all parties and our constitution. The mandate of the GVCA is to represent the people of Guildwood and we have taken great pains to do so. In this case the issue has proven to be very controversial and many people from both sides are very passionate about it. After a great deal of input, including email, phone and direct conversation, the GVCA executive has concluded that the residents of Guildwood overwhelmingly oppose this tower. This conclusion was confirmed by a petition signed by over 600 residents. The GVCA executive considered all input and decided to oppose the tower on behalf of the majority.
The GVCA has voiced the communities concern in letters to all the parties involved and has asked that Toronto city council pass a motion for an impasse between the residents opposed and Bell Mobility/Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church. (City council voted in favor of the impasse Jan 30th 2008 ). The GVCA respects the process and strives to promote calm discussion on all issues. The GVCA has not provided any funds or support to any group.
At our January executive meeting we invited all parties to present their position and submit a letter for publication in the News and Views. The following articles are solely the work of the submitters and do not represent the views of the GVCA. They are intended to allow free discussion from all interested parties.
Sincerely
Andrew Macklin, Member at large
On behalf of your GVCA Executive

This morning at Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church an announcement was
made to the congregation that Session (the Board) has asked Bell Mobility to
be released from the contract for the cell tower. They have not yet heard
back from Bell but hope that they will respond favorably to this request.

Dear Neighbours
It has come to the attention of the GVCA Executive that Bell Mobility is considering a new site for a cell tower in Guildwood. The Guildwood Community Presbyterian Church site appears to be on hold with no change since our June 29th update.
The new site is on CNR property (SW corner of Galloway at the tracks in the CNR forest)
It is not known how far along any negotiations have proceeded between Bell Mobility and Canadian National Railways.
